In March of 2026 I had the brilliant opportunity to capture the wonderful farm stay on Sweetacres in Lumsden, Southland, New Zealand.

I met Katie, Hamish, Willie and Phillipa and their families, the owners and operators of this tranquil escape. They toured me around their massive farm, over the mountains, through the herds of sheep and cattle, getting glimpses of views throughout the day of the valleys and surrounding peaks.

As they toured me around the property, I learned the history, the works and the sweat that goes into a place like this. During my stay I felt I was a part of their families, grounded on their land and personally introduced to their way of life. I watched and photographed my first sheep shore, learned how the process is carried out and how they manage the thousands that they do.

Picnics, bike access to the Around the Mountains Cycle Trail, easy river access to some of the best fishing in the country, delicious provided meals, exclusive farm tours and access to views the public can’t see are all elements guests can experience here.

This is a real raw insight into a third generation kiwi farm with the luxuries of a cozy, comfortable cottage to relish over the days spent on Sweetgrass Acres.

If you’re in the area and are hungry for an authentic New Zealand experience, this is your stop, don’t miss it!

Warmly,
Ben
